World premiere! Concer-play ”Seasons” is a musical performance, based on the piano cycle “Seasons” by the composer Pēteris Vasks. In the center of the performance is the story about the dancer’s life, performed by Kiril Burov, however, musically brought to the life the performance will be by the pianist Reinis Zariņš. The story will be enriched with the animations displaying the poetry illustrations and video projections of Vizma Belševica poetry. In this performance, the main fragments of the dancer’s life will meet the four parts of P.Vasks music cycles. Similar to this, the important moments of Vasks’ music will correspond the special experience of the dancer.
The authors of the idea are pianist Reinis Zariņš and dancer Kirils Burlovs.
Composer Pēteris Vasks was composing the cycle "Gadalaiki" little by little, since 1980, when he also composed "Baltā ainava" – a meditation with couple sounds used, that way being created characteristic to other Baltic minimalism composers. A year later, he composed “Rudens klaviermūzika” (Quasi una sonata), a composition much more elaborated and dramatically active. In 1995, Vasks created the sound scenery – "Pavasara klaviermūzika" (Quasi una sonata), but in 2009, composer finished the missing season of the cycle –summer. In order to keep the sequence of the composing, as well as due to the fact that the composer’s “year begins and ends with the white color”, as the first part of the cycle “Gadalaiki” became winter, closing the cycle with autumn. The Spring piano composition was created as the order of Svenska Rikskonserter, however, the composition representing summer, has been created as the composer’s initiative, in order to have the cycle of the seasons in its fullest.
About the idea of the concert Reinis Zariņš says: “The origin of our inspiration for this performance since the beginning has been the cycle composed by Vasks. We found important not only the philosophically enriched idea about the cycle of a life, but also the emotionally piercing power, that can present the thought at the same time in an unquestionable and multi-layered way. We are thrilled to produce “Gadalaiki” by Vasks on the year of his anniversary. We also hope to attract many new fans of Vasks’ compositions.”
