Éric Assous
ROLE PLAYS
A tasteful French comedy in one act.
Playwright Éric Assous’s witty comedy “Role Plays” (original title “Les Conjoints”, also known as “Sharp Turns”) has delighted audiences and critics worldwide, and this autumn it will begin its journey to viewers across Latvia.
The world-renowned French theatre and film director, screenwriter, and playwright Éric Assous has had his plays staged around the world. In Latvia, the Daile Theatre (2017) staged his play “Les Amis” (The Friends), which earned great love from audiences.
Assous is also a recipient of the prestigious Molière Award, France’s highest theatre honor, and countless films have been made based on his witty scripts, including “Simply Love”, “Our Women”, and others.
The story revolves around Pierre, a family man and commercial director at a photo lens manufacturing company. While his wife is away on a ski resort holiday, Pierre invites home a random stranger he meets. In the midst of his midlife crisis, Pierre initially sees the encounter as a harmless flirtation — a “forbidden fruit” — but soon finds himself caught in a whirlwind of events, and one night’s adventure unexpectedly turns his entire life upside down.
“The productions I direct always have two key elements — an outstanding script and brilliant actors. This time is no exception. That is why I chose Éric Assous’s play — a light-hearted comedy with a touch of drama and subtle humor, which, in my opinion, is always needed,” says the director of the production, Intars Rešetins-Pētersons.
Cast: Artis Robežnieks, Liene Sebre, Marika Šmukste, Intars Rešetins-Pētersons.
