Artist Kirils Panteļejevs about the exhibition “Gora Spirits” says:
“This current reality is quite difficult to comprehend when viewed through the prism of everyday routine. Each new day surprises with ever more incredible news, forecasts, and predictions. One wants to believe in positive scenarios, to trust in higher powers, and to believe in miracles. Yielding to this feeling, in my project ‘Gora Spirits’ I wish to turn to ancient mythology and integrate figures from the distant past into a contemporary message. I have chosen mythical birds from South and East Slavic mythology: Sirin, Alkonost, and Gamayun.”
Marking the artist’s centenary — 100 years since the birth of Leo Briedītis — a memorial exhibition has been created reflecting the sculptor’s creative life. At the core of Briedītis’ artistic signature are sculptural objects, large-scale fountains, wall decorations, as well as the variety of materials he used — stainless steel, brass, bronze, and iron.
The exhibitions will be on view from September 9 to November 9 at the Art Gallery and 1st Floor Seminar Room of The Embassy of Latgale GORS.
