On January 21st, the Embassy of Latgale GORS invites to attend the screening of two Latvian movies touching the subject of an ancient and newer history of Latvia.
17.00 DAWN. For the first time in Rezekne, a screening will experience the most recent creation of Laila Pakalniņa – feature film “Dawn”. The screenplay is based on the popular story of the Soviet times about a little pioneer Pavlik Morozov. He did inform responsible authorities on his father, who was not satisfied with the actions of the Soviet Union. Later, for the betrayal, Pavlik was killed by his own family. The “heroic deed” of Pavlik Morozov was used as an example for every citizen of the Soviet Union – promoting the need to inform the authorities with no exception of the situation. In this movie, 75 years after the life of Pavlik Morozov, a young boy named Jānis lives in Soviet Latvia, the collective farm “Dawn”. His father is an anti-communist who plans to carry out a revenge. The son informs on his father. The father takes a revenge on his son. Who’s the good and who’s the bad in this Soviet fairytale? The movie reveals how dangerous can a “dislocated” brain be at any times. Even nowadays.
19.00 ĪVĀNS. This will be an opportunity to experience the documental story about Dainis Īvāns, produced by Andrejs Verhoustinskis – a story about one of the most outstanding leaders and personalities of the Latvian history of nowadays. About the past and present of Latvia Īvāns tells without omission and politically cliché texts, a great amount of which washes out human brain through a daily media and press. Īvāns has noticed that the power is something that degrades the human. He has his own arguments of who is worth listening. He is ready to admit his mistakes and disappointments, what rarely occurs nowadays within the leaders of the political ideas. He admits personal losses, things that have been sacrificed on the altar of social-political fight. Film “Īvāns” is a story about a person, who symbolizes the new history of Latvia, a human-nation that gathers in itself the hopes, idealism, disappointment, choices, compromises, wins, and losses. Story about finding the strength to return to the beginnings, not allowing to be grinded between the grinds of the centuries and not being only a slave of the happenings in the set story of the life. Film ‘’Īvāns’’ has been created in a year, with it’s crew enjoying the trust and hospitality of Dainis Īvāns at his family home “Īvāni”. Film reveals unique scenes from the historic archives and personal film chronic of Dainis Īvāns’ family.
