DOCUMENTARY FILM FORUM – GIRLS DON’T CRY. DOCUMENTARY FILM

For students, pupils, and pensioners, free tickets are available upon presenting ID.

What is it like to be a girl in today’s world? Six teenage girls in six countries — South Korea, Germany, Tanzania, the United Kingdom, Serbia, and Chile — long for freedom, want to fall in love, and wish to be in control of their own bodies.

In complex situations, they make their own choices, cope with the crises of puberty, and boldly stand against restrictions, brutal traditions, societal pressures, beauty standards, and stereotypes. They are young and amazing in spite of it all.

The film is in English, Spanish, German, Serbian, and Korean with subtitles in Latvian and English.

Director Zigrida Klaušmane has been making documentary films about young people for many years. Girls Don’t Cry is her latest feature-length documentary, created with the intention of empowering girls and promoting self-confidence. The inspiration for the film came from the birth of her first niece, Franka Lilli.

More information about the films and video recordings can be found on the forum’s website dokforums.gov.lv.

The Documentary Film Forum is organized by the National Film Centre with the support of the Creative Europe MEDIA program and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
