On January 10, The Embassy of Latgale GORS invites you to the 15th anniversary concert “VĪNS – PĪCI” of the post-folk group RIKŠI. The concert will feature both the group’s most popular songs from across 15 years, new compositions created this year, as well as a special preview of their upcoming children’s song program.
Since their first time making music together, Ēriks’ accordion, Madara’s violin, Ivars’ bass guitar, Mārcis’ mandolin, and Jurģis’ drums infused with Latgalian energy and party spirit have been heard in almost all cities of Latvia and many villages. Listeners have grown fond of songs such as “Noriet saule,” “Vot i puiseits,” “Lobs vokors,” “Īveņu,” “Kamudzi,” and other interpretations of Latgalian folk music performed at festivals and Song and Dance Celebration events. Their dance music has been played both at camps in Latvia and during visits abroad.
As the musicians themselves say, fifteen years of experience might no longer allow them to call themselves a youth group, but on a birthday — as in any proper Latgalian celebration — everyone is young. The anniversary concert will offer no shortage of songs to listen to, songs to sing along with, and music to dance to.
