From September 2nd to September 6th, a place will take 19th Forum of Baltic Sea Documentary (BalticSeaDoc) organized by the National Film Center. Tenth year in the row forum provides an opportunity for the film enthusiasts to enjoy the internationally recognized documentary films. The film program will be screened not only in Riga, but also in seven places across regions of Latvia, including Rezekne, the Embassy of Latgale GORS.

The Academy Award and other prestigious film award nominated Austrian film director, carries the audience with his self-made miniature airplane to the most inaccessible areas, letting them discover the frightening, yet colorfully fascinating world.

The train known as The Beast makes its daily trips carrying the illegal migrants through Mexico all the way to the USA. Desperate people leaves for the dangerous journey with a hope to fulfill the dreams of a human dignified life. Almost twenty years, selfless women of the Patronas community, have been preparing the food daily in order to help the refugees. In 2013, one of them – Norma Vázquez Romero – had received one of the highest recognitions of the country for her altruistic work – Mexican Human Rights Award.

In 1980s Romania, thousands of Western films broke through the Iron Curtain, opening the window into a free world for those who are brave enough to see. The black market of VHS recorders ran by Mr. Zamfir has helped to inspire the political change, while courageous translator has revealed the magic of film to the whole country this way becoming an awakening voice for others. “Chuck Norris vs Communism” is a detective story worth entertainment that carries the audience to a recent past, when censorship-strangled Eastern Europe was introduced to the illegal video films.
All screenings can be attended with no admission fee by students, pensioners, and film professionals (with certificate presented). Free admission cards available at the ticket office of the Embassy of GORS starting from September 2nd. Tickets for other visitors – 1,00 €. Film screenings are in the original language with subtitles in English and available translation in Latvian.
