Aija Rimša’s Song Concert

This year marks 20 years since the heartfelt laughter and resonant voice of Aija Rimša fell silent, when in 2005 the singer was taken by a serious illness. It was a tremendous blow to Aija’s family and children, her friends, and the admirers of her talent. Therefore, for the third year, The Embassy of Latgale GORS will commemorate the Rose of Latgale, the singer and author of so many beloved songs, Aija Rimša, with beautiful and emotional concerts.

Aija’s songs carry stories — both deeply sorrowful and joyful. On September 27, in two concerts at 16:00 and 19:00 at GORS, wonderful artists will take the stage to sing Aija Rimša’s most beautiful songs, while the song stories will be told and the concert hosted by Ineta Atpile-Jugane, poet, creator of Aija’s song notebooks, co-author of the documentary “Īsamirdzi zvaigznem leidza”, and Aija’s dearest friend.

The concert will feature singers Olga Rajecka, Ineta Rudzīte; Guntra Kuzmina-Jukna, Santa Kasparsone, Gita Dukaļska, Agnese Šīrante, and Andris Šīrants (who once worked on Aija’s studio recordings) will perform together with the children and youth of the Rēzekne District Vocal Studio “Skonai.” Also taking part are cultural soul and singing guide from the Preiļi region Irēna Kjarkuža, the accompanying band led by Sandris Sproģis (“Bruģis”), and other guests. On stage will also be Intars, Aija Rimša’s youngest son, who in his childhood managed to record only a few songs together with his mother.
